Characterization
Jean Louise Finch “Scout”
Scout is the main character of the novel and narrator as well. She lives in Maycomb with her father Atticus, who never ask anything from anyone and when he does she follows his word, and with her brother Jem who is older than her by three years. They also live with their black cook Calpurinia. Scout is a tomboy who wears overalls and is curious and innocent about the world. She is matures through the book before she would use her fists to fight but now she uses her head. She doesn't know about Maycomb’s disease of being racist. As she grows through the book she becomes more aware of this and other things she opens up to things she never knew before. Her father Atticus took the case of defending Tom Robinson a black man in a case. This exposed her to how a white mans word will always go above a black mans word.

Quote- “ Somehow if I fought Cecil I would let Atticus down. Atticus so rarely asked Jem and me to do something for him, I could take being called a coward for him. I felt extremely noble for having remembered, and remained noble for three weeks.” pg 102
Jeremy Atticus Finch “ Jem”
Jem is Scout's older brother. He lives with Scout and his father Atticus and their cook Calpurnia. He is Scout's brother so he plays games with her but as the book continues he gradually moves away from games and other childish things like this because he is growing. In the book it says Jem is going through some things and he is growing up. He sometimes shows his affection towards Scout. When he matures it is more obvious then how Scout grows up.He is like any other boy growing up wanting to be in football and dealing with normal things adolescents deal with when growing up.
Quote- “ He was difficult to live with, inconsistent, moody. His appetite was appealing….Jem was growing. I must be patient with him and disturb him as little as possible.” pg 153

Atticus Finch
Atticus Finch is the father of Scout and Jem he is their role model. He is a lawyer and takes on a case with Tom Robinson a black man and with his case he expresses his anger towards Maycomb and their racism. He is also very wise and shares his knowledge. He is one of the many few who wants racial equality between the blacks and the whites, or that is what the book infers. His wife died when Scout was young so his parenting skills are questionable. He treats Jem and Scout as adults and doesn't let them get to attached to him. Throughout the book we see different sides to Atticus and see how he reacts to difficult situations.
